What Does AI Have to Accomplish to Avoid Failure?

I'm reading Max Tegmark's book (video above) Life 3.0 Being Human in the Age of AI (reviewed in the Notes). The book has me thinking:

Right now, the effects of AI are speculative. Nothing amazing or catastrophic has actually happened. It's all Hype.

Here are some concrete things that AI will have to do or it will be considered a failure:

1. Invent a new drug or treatment that actually cures some major human disease (e.g. a cure for cancer).
2. Prevent a Pandemic (e.g. COVID-19).
3. Improve Social Systems Find a way to create a Steady State Economy and prevent societal collapse.
4. Limit Climate Change so far, Humans have been struggling with the problem.
5. Expand Democracy in a meaningful way. Some critics consider that democratic regimes often fail to be true to the highest principles expected of them, while others reject the values promoted by constitutional democracy in whole or part.
6. Prevent a World War it is quite naive to think that WWI and WWII are the end of World Wars. 
7. Actually run a government that is not Repressive. Hacking Team has been criticized for selling its products and services to governments with poor human rights records, including Sudan, Bahrain, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia and Morocco.
8. Prevent Economic Crisis (e.g., a Recession, Economic Depression, Financial Crisis).

If Artificial Intelligence (AI) does not actually accomplish something spectacularly useful, it will be abandoned and considered a failure before it can do something destructive:

1. Start a Nuclear War A large nuclear exchange would kill hundreds of millions of people. It would have long-term effects, from the fallout released, and could also lead to secondary effects, such as nuclear winter, nuclear famine, and societal collapse.
2. Create and releases a deadly Bio-Weapon (AI Takeover)
3. Human Extinction many possible contributors to anthropogenic hazards are climate change, global nuclear annihilation, biological warfare, weapons of mass destruction, and ecological collapse. Other scenarios center on emerging technologies, such as advanced artificial intelligence, biotechnology, or self-replicating nanobots.
4. Accelerate Climate change beyond Tipping Points.
5. Create Economic Collapse based on Crypto Currency scams and Market Manipulations.

All the destructive possibilities of AI require that Humans give them the ability to create chaos (e.g. put AI in charge of launching nuclear weapons).
